While the name often causes confusion among people-mistaking the band for a popular movie, these guys have earned their reputation within their genre, and beyond. The Devil Wears Prada has returned from the road with their latest release, "Dead Throne," which breaks new ground for the band within the first track, which is named after the album. TDWP band has maintained their heavy riffs and high-pitched screams, but also let the synthesizer keys gasp for air. The last album, "With Roots Above And Branches Below," followed by "The Zombie EP" have been steps toward maturity that culminate here. The band has dropped all the cartoony-Nickelodeon gambits and are focusing on real life issues...like what to do if there is a zombie invasion, as a means of survival! The majority of their fans will say that Plagues was their best album and they have been a steady decline since the, I would have to disgree! While I can say that it was a turning point from their debut, I think they grown into themselves instead adding to the saturated (yet stagnant) metal scene.
Prada has yet to drop their breakdown verses but they have incorporated gang vocal choruses and a little more singing than screaming, while still giving a variation of the two as they have gradually warmed up to that during their progression.
While co-headlining Warped Tour this year with A Day To Remember, their fans got a great taste of what was in store for Prada. Their first single off of DT is titled "Born to Lose," and signifies their growth into a new sound, while still leaving traits of their previous style for their die hard fans who have supported them over the years. It has a bit of a dance feel to it, but picks up before you can get your feet moving.
Give it a listen here...
They dropped like a full step again! it's so heavy. i would tend to be on the side that says TDWP is not the same band they were while writing "Plagues" or "Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord" but i don't have any sorts of problems being a fan of the new stuff either! it's just a different sound. i do miss the chaos that they used to have back in the day that they were playing the tiny shows, but i think their precision now is almost unparalleled. they're Pioneers. always have been.
