Ahhh.....good ol' Yellowcard. It's no secret that YC's music has uplifted and carried a lot of people through different seasons of their life (like nursing a broken heart, blowing off misperceived energy, or coping with a loss) since their groundbreaking release, Oceans Avenue, back in 2003. Their music is rhythmic, personal, and contains melodic violin riffs that renders a different dimension to the music-giving it another element of life. Vocalist and guitarist, Ryan Key, has a voice that strikes a note of familiarity with lyrics -mostly about a girl-that paint a picture or tell a story.
While the Yellowcard fell off the radar for a bit after the success of Oceans Avenue faded, the band has come up for air from time to time to re-enchant their fans. After a recent hiatus, their latest release, "When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes," is one of their best attempts yet. While their sound has not changed too dramatically, some of their latest guitar riffs push the metal envelope just a little, such as the harmonic lead riffs featured on "For You, And Your Denial," and "Life Of Leaving Home," (which also blend in with the violin, making it almost indistinct) while still keeping their power strumming action they have had throughout the years.
Formed in 1997 in Jacksonville, FL Yellowcard have gained a reputation within the music industry that has served them well. It goes without saying that they have paid their dues-from playing minor stages at Warped Tour to supporing Linkin Park in Japan. While their relationship with Capital Records is no more, they have managed to keep their good standing with their audience, and is now signed to Hopeless Records, a very well known punk label that has outlasted several of their rivals.
